The Birds

The shadows look slightly threatening, don't they? This was taken in Hell's Kitchen on March 16. I think I'm going to start another mini series - this time about pictures I took in New York last month.

Curtains

One of those pictures I had forgotten for a long time. I don't remember why I took it but it seems I liked how the reflections of the trees interacted with the creases of the curtains.

Near London's Tate Gallery on March 27, 1996. M4-P, 35mm Summicron, Tri-X in Rodinal.

Speaking of windows again, I've tremendously enjoyed Klavdij Sluban's book "East to East" which I recently bought and which also contains several views out of windows (many of them taken from the Trans-Siberian Railway). It's a wonderful book with dark and bleak photos almost devoid of any human presence. One of my current favorites.

The only problem with great books like Sluban's is that they remind you how bad your own stuff is in comparison...

Office view

After a longer break, this is part no. 7 of the window mini series. The view (obviously in winter) out of an office I used to work in when I was in Cambridge in November 2009.

A quick snapshot that I took with the FED 5 in Hanover on June 4, 1995. Tri-X in HC-110.

Love

More than ten years ago. One wonders if they're still a couple.

Snow

Winter is finally over, so here's a reminder how it was this year - the snow-covered Lake Mjøsa again. (And while I criticized myself for shunning the portrait format two months ago, I realize I've used it quite often recently.)

Self portrait with two hands

Another self portrait. Well, kind of.

Taken in Hamburg on January 30, 2010 with the M7 on old Neopan 1600 which was developed in HC-110. The lens was the 35mm Summicron.

Window 95

Judging from my contact sheets, this must have been the first time I took a shot through a window from the outside.

A man and his dog

I don't really know if the title of Thomas Mann's novella is appropriate here as I don't know if the man disappearing into the house really was the dog's master. But obviously the dog was pretty interested in him.

Untitled

I thought it was about time that a picture in this blog came without a title, so there you have it. Another one from my trip to Berlin last month. I think this was an old bunker, but I'm not sure.

Empire St. Building

This picture kind of complements one that I posted last year. Of course, it doesn't show the real building but rather a poster again. It was taken in the real New York, though, on March 16 this year.

It's also the first photo in this blog that I took with my 90mm Summicron. It's a pretty old lens (1985) that I bought used for a good price some months ago. Already when I bought it I knew I wouldn't use it much as I prefer wider lenses and I don't like changing lenses when I'm out on the street. But last month in New York I attached it to my old M4-P and had that camera with me most of the time as a second body in addition to the usual M7/35mm combo.

Film was Tri-X in Rodinal. The photo was cropped a little bit.

Reflections

This is from the short phase when I was seriously experimenting with color photography. At the time when I took the photo, I thought it was great. A few months later I didn't care much about it. Today, I played a bit with the saturation and the tone curve and I now think it's quite OK although certainly not a masterpiece. Ask me again in summer.

Taken near Boston's South Station on July 12, 2009 with the M8.2 and the 35mm Summicron at ISO 160.

Creeper

It's too long ago, so I forgot what I actually photographed here, but my notes say it was in Jerusalem on August 19, 1995.

The seventh dummy

And the third one from Oslo this week, from the same day again.

Only the torso of a display dummy in this picture from Hamburg. I liked the light.
